June 2011
My previous website domain name KarensGen.Com lapsed and before I could renew cyber-squatters snatched it up. Their fee to buy it back was very unreasonable so I had to rename my website (the dash is added).

Hohnhorst
Amt. Rodenberg, Landkreis Schaumburg, Germany

The area between Buckeburg and Nenndorf is covered with forests and the ground was moist. The first settlements were founded on hills where the ground was much dryer.

HOHNHORST is situated on such a hill high enough to give dry ground for the village. HORST is the word for dry bushes or brush or thicket . It also means a free and dry place within a forest ... and HOHEN means high. In the year 1380 AC Hohnhorst was named Hoenhorst and in 1130 AC Hanhurst.

St. Martin Church, Hohnhorst, Germany Extractions Indexes
The St. Martin Church of Hohnhorst indexes that are posted at the FEEFHS website were created in 1997 by Dr. Edwin Friedrich and myself. Since then we have made many corrections and updates to the original transcriptions. View these indexes at CEFHA-Updated 2003 German Genealogy website by John Movius (not affiliated with FEEFHS).

The records of St. Martin Church contain a gap between the years 1741 and 1766. During this time period Pastor Adolph Friedrich Theodore Stueber only kept notes of his official duties and fragments of baptisms, marriages, etc. contained on loose papers. These papers were reconstructed into a typed book form with an index of names in 1969 by Helmut Zimmermann.

Kirchenbuch der Gemeinde Hohnhorst von 1741 bis 1766, Helmut Zimmermann, Hannover 1969, baptisms (taufen) typed in the book for the year 1747 are actually baptism records for 1728.

GO - Excerpts from 1741-1766 marriages and baptisms of the Hohnhorst church records (mainly my own family interests -includes surnames Hattendorf, Richers, Wille, Wuestenfeld - Karen).

If you have come to my website via Ancestry: Several years ago the genealogy giant Ancestry absorbed the genealogy websites of Rootsweb along with personal databases posted at Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project that included a large database of my own family information. I started using Rootsweb in 2000 and they gave us the capability to add, remove, and update our information at anytime and I used these options frequently to post correct and current data. Presently (2006) I am told by Ancestry that we cannot maintain our own databases, we cannot even remove them. If you find information at Ancestry with my name attached please search my website for current information, the databases posted at Ancestry contain inaccurate information. - Karen Rowe.
