June 2011 My previous website domain name KarensGen.Com lapsed and before I could renew cyber-squatters snatched it up. Their fee to buy it back was very unreasonable so I had to rename my website (the dash is added). Please update your bookmarks. Karen S. Rowe |

Friedrich Wilhelm Buchmeier (William) was born 7 OCT 1845 at Rolfshagen, Germany, the 3rd child of Christian Ludwig Buchmeier and Sophie Sieckmann. He was christened in the Lutheran Church at Obernkirchen, Germany on 19 OCT 1845. Witnesses at his baptism were Conrad Ebeling of Rolfshagen #5, and Heinrich Buchmeier.
After coming to America in the late 1860's with his parents, he was married to Wilhelmina Stehr on 28 JUN 1868 at St. Johns Lutheran Church south of Beecher, IL. A year later a son, William Jr., was born. The family of 3 traveled to Beatrice, Gage Co., NE and William signed his First Papers to be a US Citizen on 25 APR 1870. The family was counted on the 1870 census at Beatrice. At the Beatrice Land Office they filed for settlement of US land in Fillmore County, NE. They bought 80 acres of prairie in Section 10, 2 miles east of Ohiowa, NE. Wilhelm and Wilhelmina had 7 children. William Jr. died as a child in a prairie fire (in Nebraska).
William Buchmeier Sr.'s citizenship was granted after his required 5 year residence, sealed on 30 MAY 1876 and signed 14 JUN 1876. Wilhelm and Wilhelmina farmed near Ohiowa until the spring of 1904 when they moved to Williams Precinct near Hubbell, NE in Thayer County. William died of cancer of the pancreas at 65 years of age, the day before his birthday. He was buried 8 OCT 1910 at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery near Hubbell. His gravestone is erroneously engraved as a December birth and death.

If you have come to my website via Ancestry: Several years ago the genealogy giant Ancestry absorbed the genealogy websites of Rootsweb along with personal databases posted at Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project that included a large database of my own family information. I started using Rootsweb in 2000 and they gave us the capability to add, remove, and update our information at anytime and I used these options frequently to post correct and current data. Presently (2006) I am told by Ancestry that we cannot maintain our own databases, we cannot even remove them. If you find information at Ancestry with my name attached please search my website for current information, the databases posted at Ancestry contain inaccurate information. - Karen Rowe. |
